WTA proposes FREE TRANSIT IN WHATCOM COUNTY

Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) is seeking comment on a proposed change to the rate structure affecting all transit routes and paratransit rides.

As part of WTA's commitment to the community there will be a ballot item in the November 2020 election titled Whatcom Transportation Authority Proposition 1, passage of which would allow WTA to explore ways to make collecting fares easier and faster, to reduce delays and to simplify access for more riders. This was one of the community-identified priorities that resulted from their two-year public engagement process.

One of the strongly recommended actions would be the implementation of a five-year “zero-fare” demonstration project. If approved, the project would go into effect on January 1, 2025. This means that bus and paratransit passengers will not pay fares to use the services during the demonstration.
